The scenic relaxing journey to Oxford from London took just over an
hour. We were all anxious to see where we were living. This was a first
time experience for us. To our delight and amusement the youth hostel
was a modern building with wonderful facilities.
Located opposite Oxford station it is ten minutes away from the buzzing
town and the delightful cloistered buildings of the universities with
the gracious courtyards and the exquisite buildings. Next to the youth
hostel is also ‘said business college’ catering for MBA
students.
The tall buildings of Oxford University. The bodlien library, Botanic
gardens, Ashmdean Museum and many more are all accessible when you visit
the Oxford youth hostel.
The trip to Oxford was successful in meeting all the aims of the project.
Over the two days, the students were actively engaged in the experiences
the youth hostel offered and the access it gave to the surrounding area.
The students were made aware of the cost implications if we did not
arrive on time to use our pre book ticket on the 9.36am train. On arriving
in Oxford
As teachers a further development of this financial awareness which
is making the students wake-up to the explicit implications of travelling
with limited means. We believe that this wake-up call can empower our
KS3 students in Swanlea and beyond.
Our future plans to take this project forward is to give the students
maximum empowerment to plan and book an additional YHA trip to Europe. The
value added will be working with different currencies,ie noting that
not all European countries are in the Euro zone.
